VISION EXAMS AND EYE WELLNESS - SHETTLE FAMILY EYE CARE & EYE WEAR - DR. SCOTT SHETTLE

Eye Exam: At Shettle Family Eye Care & Eye Wear, caring begins with a thorough eye examination. Your exam will evaluate how well you see and identify any potential eye diseases. This includes an intraocular pressure check, biomicroscopy and ophthalmoscopy to assess corneal and retinal health, as well as the determination of your proper eyeglasses prescription.

During your examination, special eye drops dilate the pupils for a more thorough evaluation. Mild side effects of the drops may include sensitivity to light and blurry vision for two to four hours. Driving is permissible after dilation if you do not have far to travel. We will provide you with disposable sunglasses. Contact lenses may NOT be worn until your pupils return to normal.

Medical Eye Exams: Our office provides medical eye examinations for eye infections, injuries, cataracts, glaucoma, as well as eye complications from systemic diseases such as diabetes and high-blood pressure. If you have any of these problems, you will require special attention to your eye care. We can effectively manage these conditions and prescribe the appropriate medications or, when necessary, arrange for a consultation with a surgeon. Records of all special testing as well as photos will be sent to the specialist to maximize the continuity of your care.

Referrals: Occasionally during your examination, we may diagnose an eye health problem that requires more specialized care. The doctor will make a referral to the appropriate specialist to assure that your eyes receive the degree of care they require. Records of all special testing will be sent to the specialist to maximize the continuity of your care.

Surgical Co-Management: Our office provides working arrangements with many eye surgeons to provide surgical services such as cataract surgery, laser surgery, refractive surgery, strabismic surgery, as well as surgery for retinal detachments, retinal tears and holes. Whenever possible, pre- and post-operative checkups can be done in our office for your convenience.

Eye Emergencies: If you have an emergency and must come in without an appointment, we will make every effort to see you as quickly as possible. If you experience sudden or partial vision loss, chemical burns, trauma or severe pain, call the office immediately at (727) 528-2015. Of course, if the trauma is severe, go directly to the emergency room or call 911. If you are having an eye emergency and it is after hours, call (727) 422-2940. Should any chemical or foreign substance be splashed into the eye, rinse the eye profusely under a gentle stream of clean water for at least fifteen minutes (thirty minutes if the chemical was a strong base (alkali) such as a lye based drain cleaner or lime based plaster or cement). Do not wait until you get to the office.

Eye Glasses: At Shettle Family Eye Care & Eye Wear we are dedicated to providing you and your entire family with the latest in technology in vision correction and the latest in fashion eyewear! From budget to designer frames and sunglasses, Shettle Family Eye Care & Eye Wear has something for everyone. We want you to love your glasses!

Contact Lenses: Contact lenses correct vision by resting directly on your cornea. Because of this direct fitting on the eye, special measurements must be taken to ensure the proper fit. Your contact lens fitting includes these measurements and all follow-up visits to ensure you are happy with your contact lenses. If you have never worn contacts, you will receive special training on the proper care of your lenses and the correct insertion and removal techniques.

Visit AllAboutVision.com for complete information on eyeglasses and contact lenses, and for an explanation of myopia.
